Keepers of Azeroth: DKP In Depth

DKP In Depth
The intention of this page is answer some of the frequently asked questions regarding dkp in general as well as go in-depth with some topics which may not have been added to our main DKP page.

What is DKP?
DKP, short for Dragon Kill Points. For a more thorough review of the history of DKP as well as the many other types of DKP, visit wow-wiki. These points are awarded to each guild member as they attend a guild raid. The current DKP of each member reflects his or her priority for loot. When a member "wins" an item, they lose a DKP amount that reflects the value of that item. DKP, in theory, allows for an unbiased comparison between guild members when decisions about loot are to be made based on attendance and recent items that have been awarded.

How do I track my DKP?

[1] Via our guild website.
Barring any previous raids that are yet to be updated and miscellaneous administrative bonuses which are in the process of being updated, the official DKP standings are tracked via our website. At any time, you are able to view the current standings, latest item prices, any previous raids which have been recorded, items that were received during each raid, as well as view a raid analysis from previous raids.

[2] Via in-game whisper commands to dkp admin.
15 minutes prior to the beginning of a raid, the dkp admin will update his/her in-game addon to reflect the current dkp standings for use in the up-coming raid. Once he has done this, any member can use whisper commands to view information regarding their dkp. While every attempt is made to keep this record updated real time when loot drops, the official dkp listing will always be the website version.
!dkp - Returns your current DKP
!dkpall - Returns the current DKP of everyone.
!dkp name - Returns the current DKP of the player 'name'. i.e. "!dkp joe bob fred" will return the dkp of joe, bob, and fred.
!dkpclass class - Returns the current DKP of everyone of a particular class. i.e "!dkpclass mage" will return the dkp of all mages.

What if my DKP is incorrect?
If you find an error in your DKP, this is typically caused by one of two things. Either you were on an alt and the dkp did not get transferred, or you disconnected during the raid snapshot and the system did not capture your attendance. Both of these things can easily be corrected by contacting the DKP admin. Also, when viewing your character profile, you will see a list of raids and your attendance. If you believe you were in attendance but did not receive credit, you can click the "i was there" link to contest the lack of dkp credit. It will send a notice to the DKP admin for correction. Note that your attendance and dkp is tracked on your main, not your alt. So if you went to a raid on your alt, it will actually appear on your main character's tab, not the alt.

What about those pesky alts?
Yes, alts can be tricky but we've made allowances in our system to allow for alts to earn and spend dkp. But you MUST ensure that DKP admin is aware that you are playing on an alt PRIOR to the raid start in order for DKP to be transferred or else you WILL NOT be able to purchase items during that raid. You'll still be able to earn points, you just won't be allowed to spend them. We make every effort to know ahead of time when someone is bringing an alt. However, things can get hectic prior to raid start time so please do not assume that the raid admin is aware that you are on an alt. Do yourself and the admin a favor and notify them prior to start time.
