Hello and welcome to the KoA "About Us" page!! This page may appear small but it contains everything you ever wanted to know about KoA. If you're a prospective applicant, click the links below to get started. Current members should be knowledgeable of all information contained here as well. Don't let the cute little links fool you, there's a lot of information here. If you came here expecting to quickly fill out an app and get invited, trust me, we will know. Take your time and understand what we're trying to do here. If you have any questions, contact a class leader (listed under the 'guild ranks' link below) or an officer prior to filling out your application. About Us About Us<Keepers of Azeroth> was started on 5 September 2006 as a small casual raiding guild with short term goals of maintaining a fun and mature atmosphere while leveling and the long term goal of experiencing and mastering end-game content. Fast forward and you find that the Keepers are a massive presence on Dentarg-US. WowJutsu, places us 5th in Alliance Raid Progression, 4th alliance side (7th server side) Dentarg Server Progression Thread and 1st in terms of membership statistics gathered from Warcraft Realms. What are are:-- Fun: We like to goof around and have fun. We try to schedule guild events around the seasonal in-game events and generally like to have a good time. We're always looking for ways to enhance the WoW experience beyond the everyday grind of leveling and raiding. -- Diverse: Our members are from all walks of life, have diverse levels of end-game experience, broad age differences, PVE/PVP/RP gaming styles, and much more. We like to keep things casual and fun, it's a game after all and we do not dictate how you should play the game unless you're participating in an event that requires a certain type of game play (i.e. raiding). -- Helpful: Our members are those that are naturally helpful. We function so well as a guild because we're not all out for ourselves. All of our members care about other members and their progression and we do what we can to help them when ever we can. If you're not that kind of person, we don't want you. -- Personal: We encourage guildies to get to know each other as people, not as toons on a server. We have created a tight knit group of friends and we're open to expanding that circle of friendship. We encourage our members to interact with their families, friends, and co-workers in a way that engages them in the game so that their game-play is not hampered by "wife-aggro" etc and contributes to their game play experience. What we are not:-- A Leveling Service: We will NOT level your character for you. We are not "player assist". We worked hard to get where we are and expect others to put in the same amount of effort. We are a raiding guild with members who have lower level alts but we will not choose lowbie runs over raids. Period. If you can't group with guildies, you are expected to solo or pug your way through your leveling. -- Immature: We like to have fun but not at the expense of others. We do not approve of people who make idiots of themselves in public and we're not morons on the general chat channel or public forums. There's a huge difference between having fun and being immature. If you don't know the difference, our guild is not for you. -- Server Firsts: We don't do server firsts. We progress at a pace that is comfortable for us. We may not be first but we ARE progressing. Casual raiding to us means: if you like to raid, then raid with us. If you don't then don't. BUT IF YOU DO... do it seriously. Learn our rules and follow them or you don't raid with us. Admission Policy Guild Admission Policy The following is our guild admission policy.
Age We are a MATURE raiding guild. While we do have some members (mostly family members) who are younger, we do not generally invite individuals who are under 20 years of age. The average age of our member base is 26. We highly discriminate by maturity level and leave it to the officer's interpretation of your guild application as well as the reference of an individual(s) who may vouch for you during the application process to dictate admission.
Character Level We no longer *actively* recruit members under the character level of 80. However, we are not denying membership based on level alone and welcome players to submit an application even if they are not level 80 if they feel they can be a contribution to the guild's overall goals.
Race All races welcome! ...we are an equal opportunity guild...yes, that means even you, you drunken little dwarves! Horde need not apply.
Class Our recruitment needs vary regularly in regards to class and spec. We try to keep our "currently recruiting" section (which you can see on the side of all of our web pages) up to date with our current recruitment needs. Exceptions can sometimes be made based on officer discretion. When you apply for membership in our guild, we expect that toon AND spec to be your intended raid toon and spec unless stated otherwise in your application.
Time Zone We are on a US based Eastern Standard Time (EST) server but do not filter admission based on Time Zone as our members are scattered from all time zones. We schedule events and raids based on EST and our "official" raid times are 9pm-midnight server time during the week and 7 or 9pm server time on the weekends depending on raiders' availability.
Personality Personality can be a major dividing factor for many guilds. We like to keep the guild as varied as possible but one key personality trait you will find is HELPFULNESS. If you're militaristic, quiet, whatever, that's fine as long as you keep in mind that being a part of this guild requires you to help when needed and to think of your guild-mates before yourself as often as possible.
Game Style We are a PVE guild with a small splash of PVP. The joy of WoW is that you can choose to be PvP/PVE/RP, etc and still work as a group and have a great time. We are not filtering membership based on your choice of game style. Our main focus is guild progression via instanced PVE as well as some Arena/World PVP but if that's not what you like to do, please do your part in the gathering of resources, assistance of members, etc. Your game style is your choice as long as it doesn't interfere with our PVE goals. Requirements Membership Obligations Below are some of the things that are expected of you as a member of KoA.
Game Activity We expect our members to be actively be playing the game. Without active players, we will not progress. If you are inactive for more than 10 days, you may be demoted to the "inactives" rank. After 30 days, you may be kicked. This can be avoided if you contact an officer and/or post a notice on our forums. We understand life happens and strive to be as accommodating as possible w/out causing harm to the rest of the group. Realize that we will attempt to progress in your absence and if you are a raider, that may mean your replacement. It is your job to catch up upon your return.
Guild Activity We expect members of the guild to play with other members of the guild as often as possible. This means teaming with guildies for the majority of the time and attending scheduled guild events such as group quests and raids. Members who begin to show a pattern of guild inactivity without contacting an officer beforehand will be contacted and warned once and then will be kicked. We are loyal to the guild and we show that loyalty by being a part of the guild when possible.
We allow you to have alts in the guild as well as outside of the guild. But you WILL choose KoA first. Any member who shows a pattern of choosing another guild's activities over KoA's scheduled activities will be contacted and warned once and then will be kicked.
Any member found to apply for membership to another guild while still a member of KoA will be kicked.
Website Activity We use our guild website to post important changes to the guild rules/admission policies/etc as well as to schedule guild-sanctioned events and raids and to communicate important information and share resources. We expect all of our guild members to actively participate in discussions and events on the website. We have also mandated the use of a select amount of game addons. These addons will be used regularly and kept up to date.
Guild Solidarity Loyalty and dedication is key to increasing pride and morale among guild members. Members are expected to wear the guild tabard as soon as they are promoted to member; sooner is even better and shows us you want to be a part of KoA. We realize many people prefer to maintain their individuality or show special recognition tabards. When solo, the tabard is an optional garment (but still encouraged) but when in groups of 3 or more should be worn to show solidarity to the guild and promote the guild to other players. We highly encourage members to wear their tabards at all times as a form of passive recruiting.
Guild Etiquette Members are expected to be polite and courteous to each other. Greetings to arriving and exiting members during game play provide a warm and friendly gaming environment. Communication in this manner will help facilitate social interaction, teamwork, guild activity and solidarity. Remember that your behavior also reflects the guild's public image. We expect you to extend this etiquette to new recruits, our recognized allies, and the rest of the Alliance gaming community.
Teamwork We expect our members to play selflessly as part of a team. Know-Your-Class. We have a handful of class officers as well as veteran players who are more than willing to assist you if you are having class related issues or have questions.
We expect you to obey your guild officers and class leaders when in raids, groups and quests. Our officers are here to assist and guide you and work very hard to keep our guild awesome and progressing. Trusting our officers when difficult decisions must be made is expected. We are always open to suggestions and ideas but know the time/place to vocalize those issues. If you come to an officer with a complaint, be prepared to offer a possible solution. Code of Conduct Code of ConductWe have set up this simple Code of Conduct that all members are expected to follow. These rules promote respect and courtesy among members. Misconduct and inappropriate behavior impacts KoA negatively as a whole. Misbehavior will result in one warning and a possible demotion. Any subsequent misconduct will result in a kick from the guild regardless of your member standing.World of Warcraft Game PoliciesWe fully and unconditionally support the current and any future World of World of Warcraft Game Policies and will remove any member found to violate these policies. CursingWhen it comes to cursing, we ask that you bear in mind the context and audience in which you are speaking. Cursing on the General and Trade chats is SEVERELY frowned upon as it promotes a negative view of KoA when used excessively. We recommend a PG-13 attitude in group settings, guild chat, and vent general channel/lobby and we ask that you use your judgment in private chats and vent channels. We pride ourselves on being a fairly family-friendly guild and invite all family members of guildies to become a part of our group. Many people are hesitant to do so when faced with constant cursing and rude chatter on the channels. Foul PlayFoul play occurs when members perform activities for the sole purpose to ruining another Alliance [key word] member's gaming fun. Such activities include but are not limited to monster pulling, teleporting one to a hazardous zone, camping a spawning area in PvP, and cheating. This type of behavior should be reported to and is subject to GM/Officers. Stalking/Sexual Harassment/Misconduct of Sexual NatureMembers who have been shown to have engaged in any unwanted harassing behavior of a sexual nature will be kicked out immediately. Predators, perverts and stalkers are unwelcome in this guild. If you have been subjected to this type of behavior, please contact an Officer immediately. Guild Ranks We use the following guild ranks to organize our member base, control permissions, and establish responsibility:
Guild Master (GM) - Tayluka Overall responsibility for guild management, policy, and decisions. Administers guild website and ventrillo server. Chief decision maker on guild member additions, promotions, and removals with advisory input from the GO.
Guild Officers (GO) - Aziza, Beastofvegas, Kokkanee, Erroman Advisory counsel to GM on guild related matters. Overall mission is to support, plan, and implement GM guild policies and goals. Assists in coordinating guild events and executing activities which support or guild's ultimate goal which is end game progression.
Officer Alts Same rights and privileges as GO except these are the alt toons of our officers. Allows the GM/GO(s) to maintain most of their administrative functions as officers while playing their alts.
Class Leader (CL)
Death Knight: Iruneu | Druid: Deadlywabbit | Hunter: Open | Mage: Feldaan | Paladin: Razuur | Priest: Open | Rogue: Scroneus | Shaman: Open | Warlock: Damaskus | Warrior: Open CLs are the single focal point for class related information and decisions. CLs will be reviewed every few months by the officers to determine the person most suited for the position based on many factors including but not limited to: attendance, general knowledge and understanding of all class specs, willingness to assist others, leadership skills, etc. CLs are your first point of contact for class related questions, advise, and assistance. If they cannot help you, it is their responsibility to direct you to a resource (another member, a website, etc) that can be of assistance.
Members Main characters of guild members. These are the "mains" of which members will play the majority of the time and the name by which we will recognize them by. If you are a raider, you will sign up and show up with these toons for all raids unless stated otherwise by the raid leader.
Alts Alternate characters of Members. Alts have the most of the same privileges of their mains. Currently, we allow 3 alts per main character. Alts are not allowed to raid unless stated by the raid leader beforehand or during the raid and must meet all raiding requirements that fall on main characters.
Inactives Members (and their alts) who have notified us that they will be inactive from the game for an extended period of time. Officers must have advanced warning of their absence and be reasonably sure that they will be returning. If you do not notify us of an extended absence, we may assume you re-rolled and your character will be removed from the guild.
Initiates New recruits who have recently joined our guild and are going through a trial period prior to being promoted to Members. This period will last 2 weeks at a minimum, 1 month at a maximum depending on how often the Officers choose to hold an Initiate Review. Initiates share the same rights as mains except that they are in a transition status and should make it a priority to get to the know the guild as much as we are trying to get to know them. Mains of members will have first priority for raid invites over Initiates unless stated otherwise by the raid leader.
Titles vs Ranks Certain members of the guild will receive titles based on behavior, accomplishments, activities. These titles come with them a particular set of responsibilities and rewards, mostly resposibilities. These titles are not given special ranks in the guild rank structure but are significant enough to warrant mention:
- Raid Leader(s): Beastofvegas Raid Leader is a designated individual who is the most qualified and willing person to run our raids. This person has overall responsibility for choosing raid members and assistant raid leaders, coordinating swaps, explaining guild-specific strategies, etc. When this person is not available, an officer will take over this position or designate the appropriate person for the task. Loot Rules ############### #Loot Rules ###############These rules are subject to change based on guild progression. 5 Man GroupsOverview: BOE = Need before Greed BOP = Need before Pass, then roll on shard Overall Rules:[1] If it is an obvious upgrade to the character you are currently playing, then you "need" the item. [2] Every grouping is based on it's current attendees. If it's an upgrade for one of your alt characters and the toon is not currently in the group, too bad. Take him/her on a run and get the gear on it's own merit. You will NEVER need on an item that you cannot currently use and that is not an upgrade for the toon you are playing unless previously agreed upon prior to the looting. [3] All items received from a "need" roll must immediately be equipped, learned, etc to avoid the impression of a ninja loot. Exceptions to this are weapons that are an upgrade but your skill is not high enough and may be a detriment to the current grouping as well as gear that when not enchanted/gemmed would be a downgrade from your current gear, again being a detriment to the current grouping. This must be stated prior to rolling need. Bind on Equip:These items will ALWAYS be greeded on UNLESS it is an upgrade. Upgrades are a need roll. Because they are BOE, everyone has a chance to make money off of the item so they "greed" on the item. However, a member's (and subsequently, the guild's) need to upgrade their gear is much greater than another member's need to make money. Bind on Pickup (class/skill specific):These items will ALWAYS be passed on UNLESS it is an obvious upgrade. We call this rule the "need before pass" rule. If you need the item, you will roll need. If you do not, you will pass. Everyone Passes: If everyone has passed, the designated enchanter will roll need and D/E the item(s). All members will do a /roll. The highest /roll gets the mats. If there are more than 1 set of mats, we will go down the list of /roll from highest to lowest with the highest choosing which mats he wants, etc. Exceptions: The only exception to this rule is if you are in a group that does not include an enchanter. At that time, the same rules apply as the BOE rules, Need Before Greed. Bind on Pickup (non specific):Some items are not specific to any particular player type or skill. These are the items that generally cause havoc in guilds. Our stance on these items is that we will discuss quickly regarding these items and then the same need/greed rules apply. If there is disagreement, the highest ranking officer (or group leader if no officers are present) will make the decision as to which members should roll need/greed and that will be the end of the discussion. If there is too much discord over an item, the item will be passed by all and disenchanted so as to keep the raid moving and everyone can cry about it later on the forums. General Raid Loot Policy1 Main Spec Epic, 1 Off Spec Epic, 1 Recipe, 1 Tier Set Piece per raid ID. (If we are not using DKP, this is the policy to be followed) Raid Leader (RL) will determine which class/spec is allowed to roll on the item. If he/she does not state your class/spec, DO NOT ROLL. We know where gear should go. We try to maintain armor classes (cloth gear to clothies, etc) so ask first before you roll under your armor class. Loot will generally go to alternate armor classes before going to Off Specs but make sure no proper armor specs need it first (exceptions to obvious "best in slot" items). Highest roller wins. The RL or designated loot admin will keep track of all loot distributed to ensure an even and fair distribution of loot within the raid. Roll even if you've recieved an item if it is an upgrade. Many times people will be willing to pass if they know you need it. We try to foster an environment of teamwork and helpfulness. But if you already won something, and someone else rolls lower but gets the item instead because they haven't gotten anything, say grats and move on. Exception: More than one Item - The obvious exception to this would be in the case where a raid attendee has already received an item and another dropped that NO ONE ELSE can use nor wants. In this case, the RL will decide if the item is an upgrade or can/will be used for an off-spec. If so, the RL *can* assign the item to the attendee *or* decide to shard the item. KoA RLs know that we recommend the item be assigned to the attendee in order to assist in gear progression/upgrades for the benefit of the guild but there may be factors particular to the current raid which might preclude the RL from doing so. ALL loot decisions are at raid leader discretion and any disputes will be held privately between the RL, Guild Leader, and any disputing parties *after* the raid completion. To sum it up: Loot is Cool, but the Raid Rules. The raid WILL go on. Exception: Recipes/Enchanting mats/BOEs - Recipes not able to be learned by a person IN the raid, enchanting mats created via a BOP item disenchanted in the raid, and all BOE items that are not upgrades to a person IN the current raid are to be deposited in the guild bank immediately following the raid. 10 Man RaidsWhen in a raid, the designated Raid Leader (RL) will set Master Looter and change the loot type to "Rare" (or appropriate item level based on the current raid's needs). This gives everyone a somewhat fair (although a bit random) chance of picking up BOE items that they may sell, disenchant, or (if they truly have a guild/group mindset) give to another guildie who may have a need for the item. It also allows the Master Looter to see any random BOE/BOP epic items that may drop and assign it to the most appropriate person. 25+ Man Groups25+ Man Raids use DKP unless stated otherwise. You can view the DKP info HERE. At this time we are defaulting to our general raid loot rules until Ulduar comes out. At which time, we may or may not reinstitute our previous DKP system. All members will be notified in advance if/when this decision occurs. Mandatory Addons The following are mandatory addons for all members of KoA. Below are the recommended download locations. Ensure that all addons are kept up-to-date and are installed and enabled prior to the raid. If you would like further information on any of them, please feel free to contact an officer or any member as all members are expected to be intimately familiar with the uses of these addons. Ventrillo with working input and output. Deadly Boss ModsOmen Threat Meter--------------------------------------------------------- NOT MANDATORY: KoA Toolbar - This is not a mandatory addon or tool. Just something fun I put together with useful links and tools tailored for KoA members. It's a Firefox toolbar with links to our site, a few wow news feeds, and links to popular websites. Yes, it works for IE (gag) as well but since only people who enjoy getting hacked use IE, I don't like to mention that fact often. DKP Profiler - This is not a mandatory addon but it is awesome after you've become a member as it automatically updates your toon information here on our website. Professions, keys, gear, etc. Tips for Prospective Applicants If you're reading this, then you are possibly about to fill out an application for KoA. Below are some helpful tips for getting your application approved.
#1 Rule to know: Our application is a moron-filter. It's your first and sometimes only chance to show us that you would be a good fit in the guild. Treat it as such and take your time to prove you are not a moron.
Vouchers: We will ask you to list any possible vouchers you may have. We rely heavily on vouchers when making our decisions. A voucher can be a family member or real life friend that is currently a member, or it can be someone who you have grouped with or interacted with significantly who is currently a member. A voucher is NOT someone who you saw one day with a KoA guild tag over their head. Prior to making our decision, we will speak with any vouchers listed so it's important that if you list a voucher, you should be fairly certain that the person WILL vouch for you or it will be considered poor taste.
Age Limit: We have an age limit. We do sometimes waive this requirement but only when we have a VERY good reason to do so. Vouchers (see above) are the number one reason we *might* waive this requirement but are not guaranteed for waiver. Your gear alone will NOT lift this requirement, your experience alone will NOT lift this requirement, vouchers alone will NOT lift this requirement. We deny membership every day for very good friends of current members based on their maturity. Your responses to our application questions, your vouchers, our needs as a guild for your role/class/experience, these things together are what we base our decision on. We are much more strict on our younger applicants than we are our older ones so if you apply, be prepared to prove yourself mature enough. If you meet the age limit according to your application but your responses appear to have been written by a 12 year old, we will assume you are 12 years old and deny your application.
RTM: Read the manual - In this case we're talking about FULLY understanding our rules and regulations. We have many small things that set us apart from any other guild on Dentarg and we expect all new recruits to fully know and understand what these things are. There is no voucher strong enough that removes the requirement to follow our rules.
L33T Speak: DON'T DO IT! We are a mature guild and expect mature responses to our application questions. Take the time to check your spelling and grammar, and make sure that every question is answered fully and to the best of your knowledge. One question not FULLY answered is an automatic denial.
Have Fun: We're a fun group of people. We have some strict requirements for membership but once you're in, you're one of the guys/girls. We WANT to get to know you. Take some time in your application to tell us about yourself and why you would make a great addition to the guild. Anyone can say "i want to raid". If you haven't figured out yet that that's not all we're about, you might want to reconsider submitting your application.
