Recording the combat log/Extending the logging range

Frequently Asked Questions

Important Information:

Things to note:

[1] Each Raid Leader should assign at a minimum 2 people (1 melee, 1 ranged) for 10 man raids and 4 people (2 melee, 2 ranged) for 25 man raids to start their /combatlog at the beginning of a raid and stop it at the end and then have them send their combatlog.txt files to Tayluca so she can merge the files and upload them onto the WWS page.

[2] There is a macro up there ^^ that lets you extend your combatlog range to 200yds. Be aware that some addons increase or decrease that range automatically. I checked and mine is set to 2000 (i think due to a setting in KTM). Using the macro to change mine to 200 would be silly.

[3] We don't need 25 logs for this to be accurate. 2-4 is fine, 4-6 is better, but anything more than that is just overkill. Let the RL decide who should be saving combat logs and where to send them. It will obviously vary based on encounter but a good rule of thumb is to have at least the MT/OT/Melee dps as well as a healer/ranged dps. The overall idea is to get a wide range of different areas so that all the combat is logged and some people's info isn't left out.

[4] The files are tiny text files. Your computer is already processing this data while you're in battle but dumping it after a certain amount of time. The only extra computer usage your getting is about a one-millionth of a processor usage by the data just being saved to a file instead of purged after a certain amount of time. If the RL asks you to save your combat log, please do so. It's only going to help everyone in the raid get better.

[5] Don't forget to delete. The combatlog.txt file is not existent in your saved variables folder until you type /combatlog. After you send your combatlog files to the designated person, remember to delete the combatlog.txt file. What happens if you don't, is that someone has to sit and scroll through millions of lines of data to find and delete the old data. The WWS client has a splitting option but it's crude and difficult to work with. Please delete your combatlog.txt file after you've sent it to the RL or designated merger person.
