Keepers of Azeroth: Raid Consumables

Raid Consumables
Raid Consumables

Wrath has changed the world of raid consumables as we once new it. If you're a beginner raider, or a veteran raider looking to understand the new consumables system, this guide should give you a few pointers on where to start.

Format and some wording for this guide was poached from Nightshroud of Alleria's guide on raid consumables for Burning Crusade.

Categories and Cooldowns

The key to understanding what and how many of a consumable you need, is found in understanding the cooldowns used by these consumables as well as knowing if/when a consumable will over-ride a buff provided by another consumable or even a player in the raid/group. Some classes/specs may find that a pre-wrath consumables are more appropriate for them. This guide uses examples from the more common Wrath-specific flasks but recommends that you delve further into Wowhead for more information on using items that would be more appropriate if you are more hardcore and wanting to min/max for a particular encounter.

A fully prepared player needs:

* A Flask OR
* a Battle Elixir AND a Guardian Elixir

* A food buff

* Potions

* Scrolls

* Bandages

Flasks
Flasks last for two hours and last through death. Using a Flask prevents the use of other Elixirs. Alchemists gain an additional 2 hours on their flasks as well as increased effects from elixirs.

Food Buffs
You can have one food buff at a time. These usually last for 30 minutes unless stated otherwise and do not persist through death.

In lieu of listing all available food buffs (there are many), THIS LINK should provide you with an overview of the different types of food buffs available. It is recommend that all raiders come prepared with at least 10 Fish FeastRefresh This Item as well as bring a stock of food buffs for personal use based on their personal raid needs (hit, haste, stam, etc).

Potions
You may only use one potion per combat encounter.

Scrolls
Scrolls will stack with items listed above, but will not stack with class provided buffs such Prayer of Fortitude or Gift of the Wild. These are more commonly used in 5man groups when a particular buffing class/spec is not present but are a safeguard in raids in the event that a buff providing class is not present. Due to the nature of changes in wrath, this does not occur very often but a successful raider is a prepared raider. You may only use one type of scroll at a given time.

Bandages
The amount of health an average player has compared to the small amount of healing a bandage does tends to make people less inclined than in previous experiences to level First Aid. But a smart raider knows that sometimes staying alive that extra few seconds can make or break an encounter.
